The Kansas City Royals pounded out 20 hits and scored seven runs in the fourth inning on the way to 12-5 win over the Boston Red Sox on Friday night.

The Royals scored nine runs off Tim Wakefield, including a grand slam by Yuniesky Betancourt that capped the seven-run fourth. Wakefield (1-3) allowed 12 hits and three walks and a run-scoring wild pitch in 3 2/3 innings.

It was the third straight win for the Royals and the second in the four-game series at Boston.

The Red Sox led 3-0 after the first inning and 5-2 after the third. Victor Martinez, making his first start in four games, had a two-run double in the first and a two-run homer in the third.

But the Royals responded with 10 unanswered runs. Every member of the Kansas City lineup had at least one hit and seven of them had at least two. David DeJesus led the way with four hits.

Kyle Davies (4-3) picked up the win, allowing five runs on seven hits in five innings.

For the second straight night the Royal bullpen didn’t allow a run. They’ve pitched seven scoreless inning in the two games.
