Brad Bergesen tossed 6 2/3 scoreless innings and Ty Wigginton hit his 10th homer of the season to lead the Baltimore Orioles to a rare victory, 2-0, over the Minnesota Twins on Thursday,

Wil Ohman and Koji Uehara bridged the gap to Alfredo Simon, who pitched a scoreless ninth for his third save in as many opportunities.

Bergesen (2-2), who entered the game with a 10.57 ERA while allowing 28 hits in 15 1/3 innings, kept the Twins in check by inducing 15 ground balls and issuing only two walks. The right-hander yielded six hits and did not record a strikeout in his strongest start of the season.

Wigginton, who was not even supposed to be an everyday player for the Orioles this season, moved into second place in the American League in home runs with a two-run blast off Carl Pavano in the second. The veteran utilityman boosted his average to .299 and leads Baltimore with 19 RBIs.

Pavano (3-3) pitched well in defeat, lasting eight innings while surrendering six hits and three walks. The right-hander recorded eight strikeouts.

Denard Span had two hits for the Twins, who suffered a letdown after taking three straight from the division-rival Detroit Tigers earlier in the week.
