Michael Siani singled home the go-ahead runs in the top of the 12th inning to give the visiting St. Louis Cardinals a 7-4 victory over the Milwaukee Brewers on Tuesday night.

With automatic runner Victor Scott II at second, Ivan Herrera walked to open the 12th while facing reliever Elvis Peguero (7-4). Both runners moved up a base on a wild pitch and scored on Siani's single to left to put St. Louis up 6-4. Siani stole second, continued to third on a throwing error and later scored on Alec Burleson's sacrifice fly.

Ryan Helsley (7-4), who has a major-league-leading 42 saves, gave up the tying run in the 11th but logged a perfect 12th for the win.

St. Louis went up 4-3 in the top of the 11th on Paul Goldschmidt's RBI single.

Milwaukee tied it in the bottom half of the frame when Willy Adames doubled home Blake Perkins. Siani appeared to make a diving catch on the play, but the ball trickled out of his glove when he hit the ground. The Cardinals challenged the call, which was upheld.

St. Louis failed to score in the top of the 10th, leaving runners on the corners. Milwaukee left the bases loaded in the bottom half of the inning.

Milwaukee tied it at 3-all in the fifth after Brice Turang doubled with two outs, chasing Cardinals starter Steven Matz from the game. Jackson Chourio then greeted reliever Ryan Fernandez with an RBI double to left.

Goldschmidt put the Cardinals in front, 3-2, with a one-out solo homer in the fourth, his 21st long ball of the season.

The Brewers erased a 2-0 deficit with a pair of solo homers in the third. Joey Ortiz opened the inning with his 10th homer of 2024. One out later, Chourio sent a 3-2 sinker 403 feet to center for his 19th homer.

St. Louis scored twice in the first thanks to three doubles. Masyn Winn doubled to begin the game, advanced to third on a flyout and scored on Nolan Arenado's sacrifice fly. Brendan Donovan and Goldschmidt followed with consecutive doubles.

Cardinals manager Oliver Marmol and bench coach Daniel Descalso were ejected in the fourth inning by plate umpire Lance Barrett.

Matz gave up three runs on three hits in 4 2/3 innings. Brewers starter Aaron Civale yielded three runs and six hits in five innings.
