Second baseman Ozzie Albies, down to his last strike, hit a three-run homer with two outs in the 11th inning to give the Atlanta Braves a wild 8-6 win over the visiting Cincinnati Reds on Wednesday.

The homer, the 19th for Albies, came against former Brave and Atlanta native Lucas Sims (4-2). The winning pitcher was Edgar Santana (3-0).

Kyle Farmer had put the Reds ahead with a run-scoring single in the top of the 11th.

Cincinnati's Joey Votto tied the game with a long two-run homer into the right-field seats with one out in the ninth inning against Atlanta closer Will Smith. The two-run shot was his second of the game, 25th of the season and 14th since the All-Star break.

Votto was 4-for-5 with a pair of two-run homers and four RBIs. Both home runs came after Nick Castellanos was hit by a pitch.

Atlanta starter Touki Toussaint pitched five innings and allowed two runs on four hits and three walks with five strikeouts.

Cincinnati's Wade Miley got roughed up early but retired the final nine batters he faced. The lefty allowed five runs on five hits, three walks and struck out four.

The Braves scored a run in the first when Albies led off with a single and eventually scored on Austin Riley's double.

Guillermo Heredia hit a career-long, 433-foot home run to extend the lead to 3-0 in the second inning and the Braves tacked on two more runs in the third inning on Riley's second double and Dansby Swanson's sacrifice fly.

The Reds cut the lead to 5-2 in the sixth. Castellanos was grazed by a pitch and Votto hit a long homer to straightaway center field.

The Reds followed the homer with back-to-back hits, but reliever Jesse Chavez escaped from the jam when Tucker Barnhart and Jonathan India were both called out on strikes.

Cincinnati opened the eighth inning with back-to-back doubles by Tyler Naquin and Eugenio Suarez against Luke Jackson to cut the lead to two runs.

The win was the seventh in the last eight games for the Braves and the third straight loss for the Reds.
